RAFTING

Shockwave Adventures is the only rafting company on the Zambezi River that offers value for money in terms of the distance covered on the river per day. Beginning the adventure with the Shockwave trademark start off point” SWIM BELOW THE FALLS”, our 2.5 days trips covers a distance of about 70km and on a 5 days trip you cover a distance of about 130km. You will do more distance with Shockwave Adventures which is approximately 30km per day. White Water Rafting on the Zambezi River is an absolute gem of a trip - featuring big white water, and spectacular African scenery! One of the many highlights is bobbing around at the base of the magnificent Victoria Falls - definitely one of the more dramatic places on this planet to begin a 5 day river adventure.

Your following days will be spent challenging some of the most awesome Class IVs and Vs rapids namely The Ghost Rider, Creamy White Buttocks, the Mother, Oblivion and Stairway to Heaven only to name a few, while your nights will involve camping on expansive beaches of white sand nights under the beautiful African stars inside the Batoka Gorge of the Zambezi River, with gin and tonic in hand whilst listening to the noises of wild Africa. After completing one of the most exhilarating adventures in the world, you can head off to sample the wildlife viewing that this region is famous for. A brilliant way to really top off your trip to Africa.

2017 - 20 Price: $621

Arrival Day
Guests should be in Victoria Falls Village at least one day before the first day of the raft trip as pre-departure briefings are held one day prior. Not included: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 1 Rafting
Guests should breakfast at their hotel prior to pick up at 9 am when they will be driven to our office where the river safety briefing is held. The first part of any rafting experience is very much a learning exercise followed by Swimming Under The Spry Of The Victoria Falls, however today there is no gradual build up; this 28 km stretch on day one is by far the wildest section of river that will be covered on the 3-day trip including many class 5 rapids. Some of the rapids on day one include Morning Glory, Stairway to Heaven, Land of The Giants, and The Devil's Toilet Bowl .
We will reach our beach campsite at rapid #21 at about 4 pm
Included: lunch, dinner

Day 2 Rafting
We rise as the sun illuminates the towering walls above, to the smell of bacon and eggs on the fire. Then, with all the equipment once more stowed securely for the voyage down stream, and a long day ahead of us , we cast off into a world of exhilarating action and scenes of remarkable beauty.
Included: All meals

Day 3 Rafting
Its another hard working day portaging around Moemba Falls which is a class 6 rapid. We will then raft 2 rapids before we arrive at the Dam site around 11 am where we will have the second portage then start that long walk to the top of the canyon ice cold soft drinks and beers will be waiting. Our lunch will served on our way back to town which will take about two hours drive.

Then, with all the equipment once more stowed securely for the voyage down stream, and a long day ahead of us , we cast off into a world of exhilarating action and scenes of remarkable beauty. Its a hard working evening with two portaging around Moemba Falls. We arrive at the Dam site around 4pm where we will have the second portage and camp right by the falls.

Included: All meals

Day 3 Rafting

We will have a relaxed morning, downstream the towering waves of Ghost rider, the biggest commercially run-able roller coaster wave train in the World. In the original exploratory trip on the Zambezi one of the rafters opted not to run the rapid and pushed his empty boat off into the current. The sight of the empty raft successfully running the rapid in the twilight (after two others had flipped) inspired him to name the rapid Ghost rider. After surviving the Ghost rider rapid it will be the time to open our cooler boxes full of beers and start drinking as we will be drifting down small rapids. We get to camp at about 16:00 after travelling about 20 kms.

Day 4 Rafting

There is no rush on this day and after breakfast, rigging the boats and a late departure from camp, we paddle past a set of small rapids before negotiating a more technical rapid named Asleep At The Wheel, and then drift into camp! After departing camp we drift past Fish Eagle's nests, negotiate rapids - Wave Train, Jay Bay, (similar to Jeffrey's Bay in South Africa - a popular surfing place), Bismark's Territory, (home to a particularly large crocodile named Bismark!) and Smugglers Camp. This is the biggest fisherman's village encountered during the 6 day trip and the villagers are happy to show us around, giving us a glimpse at an astonishingly uncomplicated and simple lifestyle, totally free from the modern urban world we left behind some days ago.

Day 5 Rafting

The river really changes character. Basalt rocks give way to grassy banks and the grunts of vocal hippopotamus carry across the water. Our rafts drift past islands in the river, havens for Egyptian Geese and basking crocodiles. After a couple of hours, we rendezvous with our vehicles near the Matetsi River mouth. After packing up and deflating the rafts we head back to Victoria Falls by road, having lunch on route. The journey back takes about 3 hours. After taking time out to unpack and freshen up, a group dinner and party is always a favorite option.

What's Included:

All camping equipment such as tents, sleeping bags and sleeping mats
All meals such as breakfast, lunch and dinner
Mineral water & purified water, soft drinks, beers and wines
Video and photographer on the trip with optional to purchase DVD after the trip
